Ardent Spacers is an Item based rules system, instead of a Skill Point system.

We want to encourage players to tailor what they do at each event based on their roleplay and what they feel is right for their character, not what skills they have locked into with character progression. Engage with the story, use items to gain new abilities short or long term, and mess around with whatever you find fun to do!

New Characters

At character creation, you get to pick a number of pieces of equipment or cybernetic upgrades.

This represents the equipment you have gone onto the AES Ardent with. Every character had the same personal item allowance limiting what they could bring, and poorer characters would have been given the equipment when they signed up.

Event 2 New Players

New players from Event 2 onwards get 500 credits at character creation to spend on Equipment at the Ardent's Shop.

Event 1 Returning Players

There has been a major rules update since Event 1, resulting in many item changes. At your next event, be it E2 or in the future, you must choose one of the following options:

  1. Keep Going
    +100 Credits
Let us know if you spent less than 50 credits at character creation and also didn't spend it during the event.
You can swap out your original lammies for the new tag format at any point.
  2. Respec for Simplicity
    600 Credits
Please hand in your 50 credits of lammies from E1.

Whichever option you choose, you keep all your credits, resources, and items purchased during the event. If there are any items that are no longer valid due to the rules change, you'll be able to return them for a full refund.

Why do E1 players get extra credits?

During the rules update, we implemented a x10 inflation on item costs and changed character creation to give 500 credits instead of the original 50 credits. For simplicity we have opted to give each player extra money at the next event they attend to offset the inflation of any physical credits they had in their player pack. We have also included funds to cover money spent on single-use items that are now free, and to balance out mission rewards that weren't handed out.

Character Progression

Instead of accruing XP each event you attend, you will instead have a salary and items from your personal income. Use this to buy new equipment from the ship, maintain your current equipment, and barter planetside with traders.

Respecing Characters

All players may fully respec after their first event. You must hand in all items bought from your starting money (and any leftover starting money), but keep any income, sponsorship items, or things obtained during the event. This includes creating a new character if you didn't enjoy playing your original one.

Playing Multiple Characters

We believe everyone should be able to play a range of characters, and not have to permanently lose access to their previous character if they need a break or want to try something new at the next event.

You are not limited to playing only one character at a time and may have multiple “active” characters on the system at once. Please be conscious of keeping all story knowledge, equipment, and money separate.
